The Historical Society has over 1600 items archived and catalogued in our
database. Each item has been carefully filed in an acid-free folder. Photographs
are filed in plastic sleeves. Original documents are stored in a fire-proof
filing cabinet. Numerous additional documents are awaiting cataloging.
Our collections include: The Holzman Family Duck Farm papers, the Helen Young
papers, the Charlotte Lopez papers, the Richard Casabianca papers, the Walter
Jackson papers and a large collection of postcards and historic house
photographs.
Researchers who visit the society will find that the software for finding
documents, etc. is user friendly. The library contains published books,
periodicals and maps. It is a non-circulating collection and all resource
materials must remain in the Historical Society.
Archival Policies
The Society will use all necessary measures to protect our collections since
many of our records are one of a kind documents.
All researchers are required to register with the archivist and to declare
the purpose of their research. Identification in the form of a valid
driver’s license or US Passport is requested.
Before handling documents, the researcher must wash his/her hands. If
handling photographs, gloves must be worn. (Cotton gloves will be provided
by the archivist.)
All records must be maintained in their original file sequence. Only one
file may be examined at a time.
The Archivist will make a determination during the patron’s visit or shortly
thereafter whether a document or photograph is suitable for being
photographed or photocopied. Some items may be too fragile or too faded to
be photographed or photocopied. If the Archivist approves of these
activities, photographs and documents may be used for publication or
duplication one time only.
The HBH&PS must be credited with ownership of the documents or photographs
used. A copy of the completed publication will be submitted to HBH&PS for
our files.
